Son of Usher Lloyd Burdick and Emma Robertson Burdick; married, March 18, 1933, to Marietta Janecky (died 1958); married to Jocelyn Birch Peterson; brother-in-law of Robert Woodrow Levering. Democrat. Lawyer; candidate for Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota, 1942; candidate for Governor of North Dakota, 1946; U.S. Representative from North Dakota at-large, 1959-60; U.S. Senator from North Dakota, 1960-92; defeated, 1956; died in office 1992. Congregationalist. Member, Freemasons; Eagles; Elks; Sigma Nu. Died September 8, 1992. Burial location unknown.
